Race Week in Australia

2024 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix

It's race week in Australia. It's one of the most beloved stops on the F1 calendar. This week, F1 stops at Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, Australia.

Australian GP History: The Australian Grand Prix is One of the oldest surviving motorsport competitions held in Australia, the Grand Prix has moved frequently with 23 different venues since 1928. The race became part of the Formula One World Championship in 1985. Since 1996, it has been held at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, except for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID. Before Albert Park, the Australian Grand Prix was held in Adelaide.

About the Track: Albert Park Circuit is a Fourteen turn 5.3 km/3.3-mile track comprised of majority public roads; each sector includes medium to high-speed characteristics more commonly associated with dedicated racetracks. Albert Park has a vibe similar to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve of the Canadian Grand Prix, a street course with a dedicated racetrack feel. The race is 58 laps.

Weekend Highlights:

Home races for Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri. Can Danny score points in his home race and beat the fiery competition from his teammate Yuki Tsunoda?

Can Oscar podium this weekend with the charging McLaren team? While the McLaren team has started much stronger than last season, it has yet to have a podium. Can Oscar beat out his teammate and claim McLaren's first podium?

What team is in the hot seat the most? Four teams still need to score points: VCARB, Williams, Sauber, and Alpine. Can any of these teams break the pointless streak?

What driver is on the hot seat? Danny and Logan must show results in the next few races, or the fans' voices and opinions will get louder and louder.

How will Carlos Sainz bounce back from his emergency appendectomy, which forced him to miss the last race? Will he make up the lost points, which are critical for this year's championship?

Were the Haas points a fluke in Saudi Arabia, or will they compete in the midfield battle? Traditionally strong in Australia, this will indicate Haas's strength this season.
