#7 Michael Andretti

Michael Andretti, son of Mario Andretti, had a brief but memorable stint in F1 in the early 1990s. Andretti entered the 1993 F1 season for Mclaren-Ford, coming off tremendous success in IndyCar, winning the championship in 1991. Michael was driving at peak performance but would struggle to fit into the hyper-competitive F1 stage. Having a multitude of adversities and constantly being on the hot seat, Michael would have trouble proving his value to a highly competitive Mclaren team.

Michael would deal with the Rookie troubles of learning new tracks and a new type of race car. In addition, his teammate was the best driver on the F1 grid, Ayrton Senna, compounding the intensity. So there was extreme pressure from the team to perform.

He would have a podium at his final race at the Italian grand prix, one of the most chaotic and memorable races in F1 history. Michael would be replaced by the backup driver, Mika Hakkinen, who would eventually win two championships with McLaren. It's safe to say that Michael Andretti proved he had world-class talent and could compete at the highest levels, but he would never drive in F1 again. Who knows what career he could have had with a more extended presence on the F1 grid, maybe a new opportunity with a different team.

1994 Michael would return to the CART Indycar series and get to battle ex-F1 champ, current CART Indy Champ Nigel Mansell, and future F1 champ Rookie Jacques Villeneuve. Michael would finish fourth in the Drivers Championship ahead of Mansell and Villeneuve.

Michael would retire from Indycar racing in 2007 after twenty-plus seasons in the series. Michael would finish his career with one Driver's Title (he would finish second in three additional seasons) and 42 wins (ranks in the top five all-time).

The Andretti name is the most iconic American family in F1. Michael's son, Marco Andretti, also raced in Indycar for 14 seasons and even tested an F1 car in 2007 with Honda in Spain, the third generation Andretti to drive a Formula 1 car.

Michael Andretti's name has resurfaced in the F1 scene in recent seasons due to the inquiry by Andretti Autosport for an F1 grid spot. With funding, brand partnerships, and infrastructure, Andretti Autosport aims to bring a second American-based team to the grid. However, his involvement in F1 may continue; he could become a future F1 Boss. Andretti Autosport would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the F1 grid, with Michael Andretti leading the charge to take on this exciting challenge.
